My personal account:
This was my first proper night trail run.
Didn’t plan to enter originally, but with enticement by running buddy, ah, I was sold. Despite being afraid of the dark; and trails with neverending elevation are not exactly my forte, so hey let’s take up the challenge!
Coming after the disheartening stint at Axa Hearts In Action Run last week, this turned out to be a rather welcomed distraction from all the road running I’ve been doing.
And yep let’s declare that night trails are fun! Apart from the usual trail run challenges, add on the darkness. Headlamps are a must, and a small handheld flashlight is recommended too.
TQ to Deen for patiently pacing me, never allowing me to stop (except to tie flyaway shoelaces). Syukur kali ni tak kena game dgn pacer LOL. More training definitely required to hone my trailrunning ability – especially on going steep downhill inclines and controlling footing technique. Need to have more trust in the trail shoes!
Event wise – Great facilities (proper toilets, luggage drop), smooth bib collection, love the freeflow cold fruity drinks by sponsor 4life, the generous yummy food post-run. Good trail markers with reflective ones and plenty of marshalls at important points mid-route, but unfortunately a few race-leaders took some wrong turns and costed them their placing. Some slack during prize giving – need improvement. Apparently they didn’t have enough trophies for all the categories. Several participants also had their car windows smashed as they were parked at dark areas outside the resort and security weren’t sufficient there.
Met lots of familiar faces, plus made some new friends too. Hope to see them again at other events or elsewhere.
In a nutshell, Alhamdulillah, twas a good run. Just the pick-me-up I needed.
